I'm about 15 months into learning the Blues Harp and I want to sound as good as Paul Jones!

Yes I know it's about improvisation but is there any material out there that gives song keys and harmonica tab for some of Paul's material on the Blues Band Bootleg (or any other) album?

Sorry, can't help you with this one. Nothing containing harmonica tabs exists relating to the band - your best bet is probably to trawl through harp related sites on the web.

Enjoyed the Spalding Gig last Friday night, although we were nearly on auto-pilot and went to the Red Lion (not "The Red-Line")to the Spalding Blues Club! As regular "Bluesers" we were pleased with the new material. However, Marg's favourite is (always)"I can't tell it all" - she thinks it's about her!! We just love the new web site. The blues band is the best band in the world of rīnīb, itīs incredible the voice of Paul Jones and his style in blues harp, itīs my idol together John Mayall, Peter Green, Ray Davies and Jeff Healey, My dream is can see to the blues band on stage in Spain, I think that "Bootleg" is one of the best albums in the world. I have recors of blues of a lot of artists, genius like Junior Wells, Skip James; Buddy Guy, Fleetwood Mac, but in rīnīb, the best group is The Blues Band with difference, there are big groups like Dr. Feelgod but the blues band itīs incredible, God Save All members of The blues band with healthy for ever, you are the best, thanks for your music, thanks a lot Paul Jones, you are one of the biggest artist on blues in the world, and your voice tone is incredible, different every tones, thanks Jones. I've thought a while before posting this but I've spent the last couple of weeks listening to "Scratching on my screen" which is great. But I can't help thinking - do we need another live acoustic album? The band are in essence still a great live electric band and we have not yet had a live album which really captures them as they are in "normal" concerts. What chance a live CD that shows them how they really are - a great kicking good time R'n'B band.

We presume that you are aware of the Blues Band "Live" CD, which is available on BGO and is a re-issue of the 1983 Bye Bye Blues album. Also, although currently not available, there is the "18 Years and Alive" CD (recorded 1996), shortly to be re-released by BGO probably entitled "Live in Poland". In addition, the "Live at the BBC" album, released by Windsong in 1996, featuring recordings made at various times in the 1980s, may become available once again next year.

There is also a new studio electric album likely to hit the shops (including of course the one on this site) this coming autumn.

The Scratchin' On My Screen album is only the second acoustic CD the band have released in 22 years, and reflects pretty accurately the acoustic element of their show as featured at virtually every band concert nowadays.

There are some tracks in the can but unmixed of the 1999 Ready Fans Convention gig in Grimsby, which feature not only the full Blues Band electric line-up but in addition the Rumour horns section and Bob Hall. These may be released in the future though there are no immediate plans for this.

Don't get me wrong I think Scratching is great, and love the accoustic stuff. I do have all the other albums(with the exception of the Poland one.) I just don't really feel that Bye Bye Blues really captured the atmosphere of time & the BBC one is too bitty. Now if you released the full recorings of, say the Dundee show that would be great. My hissy old tape of that "In concert" is probably my most played. I'm not having a moan here at all, just suggesting that we lack a really good release of the 5 piece on their own - or perhaps the Poland album is just what I'm waiting for. Those tapes with the Rumour brass sound interesting. I love Brassed Up, despite what I've just said

Final confirmation is currently being awaited on a week's worth of Blues Band shows at Ronnie Scott's in Birmingham commencing 14 January 2002.

A tour featuring both The Blues Band and The Manfreds is currently being organised for November/December this year, kicking off with Hull on 7th November and with the possibility of a date at the Alexandra in Birmingham on 1st December. However, things have not yet been finalised for this. As soon as they are the details will be posted on the Tour Dates page.

Roy Bainton (the former Ready! editor) and now Simon Gee have organised various get-togethers in past years at Lincoln, plus of course Roy's now amost legendary 20th Anniversary shindig in Grimsby in 1999. Usually facilities are arranged whereby Ready! members attending the Lincoln get-together get access into the venue prior to normal doors and the band join them for drinks and a chat before the show. Many members organise their own get-togethers with fellow fans around the event. In the past, Roy sometimes assisted in making hotel arrangements etc. You need to contact Simon for specific information relating to this year's event. Hise e-mail address is: [email protected]

Hi Denise if you're reading this! Nice to meet you at Hove!

Couldn't agree more about the venue - I'm actually a local councillor & will be raising some issues with council officers, including Yvonne's experience with booked seats being deleted. Dave please note for future bookings, there are better venues in the Brighton & Hove area - the newly renovated Corn Exchange is much more adaptable and has better access & faciliites for those with disabilities. There are three good smaller venues - the Pavilion Theatre, next to the Corn Exchange, the Komedia Cabaret Bar and the Old Market Arts Centre.

Also maybe May isn't the best time to come to Brighton - too many Brighton Festival events leave a big hole in people's pockets and gigs get lost in the mass of other events.

Greetings to all Blues Band fans especially Roy & Wendy, Paul & hazel, Tricia & David, and Susan McEwan - see you at Lincoln? (or Aldeburgh or Goodnestone?).

Hallo,

We've had some enquiries as to availability of a video of the programme ... unfortunately the rights lie with the BBC & Pearson Television and because of the nightmare task of getting clearances from all appearing on such shows they never release them commercially on video. (If any fan is prepared to lend out their copy to others who missed the show perhaps they could e-mail us their contact details on [email protected]) Sorry not to be able to be more help on this one.

great site. i am only 14, but i have seen the blues band numerous times, and each time they just get better and better. swing out dave is my fav song, so it's great to see the lyrics on the site. they are a great bunch of guys and will always stop to sign autographs and have a chat. if you have seen them have you heard the bessie smith and delia smith story? they like that 1. if you haven't, you don't know what you're missing out on. and i have to say tom looks identical to my science teacher! oh and i've noticed daniel (rob's son) isn't mentioned at all on this site (correct me if i'm wrong). i think he deserves a mention. he sells the merchandise out the front, and we always chat to him. you've heard of friendly people, but these are just out of this world. and i'd like to rub it in to all those who are trying to request songs, we did (the work song) and paul played it for us. it really was worth it, so don't give up, keep pestering. and if you really haven't seen them, i promise you won't regret it if you do. keep up the great work.

I missed last year. I had been put off the country house / picnic concerts after Killerton a couple of years ago - the band were great but the atmosphere rubbish - I felt I was the only one who knew any of the songs ( except for the 54321 bit of 29 Ways). But maybe my expectations were too high. Most people seemed to just want a 60's night. But if Lanhydrock was better, maybe I'll give it a go this year. Any idea who else is on the bill ?

As far as I can remember Lanhydrock was one of the better country house events. Last year there were plently of people down at the front jumping around, not just the usual champagne and smoked salmon sandwiches brigade. An added bonus was the best fireworks display I have seen for ages, all set to music. I don't know of the bill this year but there was nothing I would class as musically offensive last year!

Well, clever clogs here obviously turned her Blues Band scanner off temporarily as I managed to MISS the show...so when can we expect the video to be made available? Seeing as there are never any adverts telling us who'll be on the show, this is? (I gave up watching it regularly about 20 years ago as it became boring after a while).
