Wait A Minute! Stepping Out On Main
Half The Man (Twice The Fool) Bus To Nowhere
These Shoes The Other Side
I'll Be Home Again Tonight Last Chance To Dance

WAIT A MINUTE!

by Paul Jones/Tom McGuinness

Now I’m the kind of guy who likes to stay au fait

But there’s too much going on and not enough hours in the day

The house is overloaded with gadgets standing idle

Each with an instruction book bigger than the Bible

Wait a minute!

This modern world is way too fast

I don’t wanna get off

I’m just not sure I’m gonna last

Software, hard drives, modem, DVD

Floppy discs and megabyte, new technology

Pass the pen and paper and I’ll make up a list

of all the things I didn’t know I needed to exist

Wait a minute! ………

I don’t think I’m slowing down

But this world ain’t going my way

Where’s the exit to be found

on this Information Superhighway

I phone up for advice – the computer take my call

One hour later I’m no wiser – I’m just climbing up the wall

Information overload will make me blow my fuse

To access me it’s www dot confused

Wait a minute! …….

They say a computer to have human brainpower

would be the size of Dallas and a 60 storey tower

Well my mind finds that kind of fact pretty heady

That box on my desk takes too much space already

The other night on tv – I saw this dot com CEO

While losses mounted up his shares just grow and grow

He said "We’ve built a software driven media global powerhouse"

I don’t know where he lives – we don’t talk like that in our house

Wait a minute! ………..

STEPPING OUT ON MAIN

by Gary Fletcher

I’m stepping out on Main Street

Been a long time gone

Yes I’m stepping out on Main Street

I’ve been a long time gone

Well I stood as judge and jury

I threw away the key

I didn’t give no hearing

Didn’t want to hear from me

I was standing as defendant

Pleading guilty to the charge

I called for prosecution

No punishment too harsh

But’m back –

on the downtown Main Street track

Well I’m walking down the Main Street

Been a long time gone

Yes I’m walking down the Main Street

I’ve been a long time gone

I’d been living in the fast lane

Pushing way too hard

Burning up at both ends

My head before my heart

Something’s gotta give

When you empty out your tank

Nothing in reserve

No credit in the bank

But I’m back –

on the downtown Main Street track

Well I’m running down the Main Street

Been a long time gone

Yes I’m running down the Main Street

I’ve been a long time gone

Well I heard my soul a-calling

We all got that voice within

Finally started listening

to some sense, meant I began

to understand the need

for my friends, my family

Guess it took the dark

to see the light in front of me

But I’m back –

on the downtown Main Street track (repeat)

HALF THE MAN (TWICE THE FOOL)

by Paul Jones/Tom McGuinness

When you were by my side

I would not be satisfied

I thought the grass was greener over the hill

You gave me your heart

But I held back a part

saying "Maybe" when I should have said "I will"

Now I must admit

that I could not commit

I thought I’d always be your Mister Right

And when you said "We’re through"

I said "There’ll be somebody new"

and let you walk away without a fight

(Leaving me)

Half the man and twice the fool I was

Had a master-plan – believed I was the boss

Now I’m at the hard knock school

‘cause I broke the golden rule

Now I’m half the man and twice the fool I was

A man can spend his days

in a melancholic haze

of yesterdays and how-things-used-to-be

Hindsight’s never wrong

Now I know where I belong

There’s no woman in this world but you for me

Time and time again

there were warnings from my friends

They said "You’ll lose her if you carry on this way"

But I was Mr Know-It-All

riding for a fall

When you walked out the blues walked in to stay

(Finding me)

Half the man ………

Look at this three time loser

Now that you’re gone

I lost my heart, I lost your love

I lost the will to carry on

Half the man ……..

BUS TO NOWHERE

by Gary Fletcher

(You’re) gonna ride on a bus going nowhere

But always some place you’ve been

Gonna sleep in a bed by your lonesome

Phone your kids, cheap calls, weekends

Gonna eat just what you are given

And always be right on time to leave

‘cause this here’s a bus going nowhere

Leastways no place you ain’t been

So why ride it in the first place?

Ain’t no penitentiary

I guess the music is the reason – and the key –

for me

It take the blues to see

Gonna work wherever they send you

And be glad whenever they call

Gonna ride this bus going nowhere

‘cause to me it’s the place with it all

So why ride it in the first place?

Ain’t no penitentiary

I guess the music is the reason – and the key –

for me

It takes the blues to see

So why ride …..

THESE SHOES

by Tom McGuinness/Paul Jones

Walked out the door with my suitcase packed

Got to the corner, met myself coming back

No matter what I do

These shoes keep a-walkin’ back to you

Thought I’d be happy if I got away

Each time I try I find my feets go astray

My departure’s overdue

These shoes keep a-walkin’ back to you

These shoes got a mind of their own

These shoes find their way to your home

These blues got a hold on my heart

No matter what I do I just can’t make a brand new start

Because

You put these tears in my eyes

Too many guys and too many lies

No matter what you do

These shoes keep a-walkin’ back to you

These shoes got a mind of their own …….

Because

You put these tears in my eyes …….

THE OTHER SIDE

by Gary Fletcher

Sure I need your money

But I’d like to talk to you

Yeh I could use your money

But I wanna talk to you

You throw me a coin

as you rush past

Your life is a blur

that moves so fast

I live in my place

in the world at your feet

Like to tell you how it is

the other side of the street

I’ll give you some money

But I can’t talk to you

You can have my money

though I can’t talk to you

I’ll do what I can

but I’m real short of time

Telephone is ringing

Two calls on the line

Places to go

and people to meet

Too busy to breathe

The other side of the street

We don’t understand how the other half live

Yet the other half have so much to give

We all travel to the place where we’ll going to meet

Yet we never seem to make the other side of the street

I’LL BE HOME AGAIN TONIGHT

by Paul Jones/Tom McGuinness

Got my baby on the phone at last this morning

"Honey I miss you more than I can say"

She said "Don’t you worry darling

I’m leaving here right away

I know you know I’ve done you right

and I’ll be home again tonight"

I said "When you get back I’ll cook your supper"

She told me, "Darling, don’t make no fuss"

I said "I’ll get some champagne". She said "I don’t need it -

all I need is the one I trust.

You know I know you’ve done me right

and I’ll be home again tonight"

Everybody understands about separation

Whichever one of us is too many miles away

And thought you realise the reason

Still you count those hours and days

We all know what it takes to make it right

These words – I’ll be home again tonight

LAST CHANCE TO DANCE

by Paul Jones/Tom McGuinness

This is your last chance to dance

Come on join me on the floor

‘cause when the lights go on

you’re gonna find me gone

This is your last chance to dance

We’ll have rhythm romance

Just one dance and nothing more

and then I’ll walk you home

You shouldn’t be alone

This is your last chance to dance

I’ve been watching you all night long

I could be right – I might be wrong

You want someone to come along

To get you out of your seat

Get you up on your feet

Get you hoppin’ to that boppin’ beat

This is your last chance to dance

Better take it while you can

Before that midnight chime

Why don’t we seize the time

This is our last chance to dance

I’ve been watching you all night long

I could be right – I might as easily be wrong

You want somebody to come along

To get you out of your seat

Get you up on your feet

Slow jiving to that driving beat

This is your last chance to dance

Better take it while we can

Before that midnight chime

Why don’t we seize the time

This is our last chance to dance
